Many companies are now offering remote work opportunities. But not all remote work is created
Some companies are "remote first", meaning remote work is in their DNA.
To these companies, working remotely is not a privilege.
"Remote work" simply equals "work" and they might not have any offices at all!
If they do have offices, their culture is likely built around asynchronous communication and not giving
preferential treatment to workers who choose to "come to work" at an office.
To some other companies, remote work is a perk that needs to be earned.
In an attempt to stay afloat during the COVID-19 pandemic, some companies forced remote work on
their employees. Some of these companies did not have the proper training, processes and tools
in place to effectively support remote work but they needed to try to adopt in order to survive.
"Remote work" is a spectrum and one size does not fit all. However, successful remote companies consistently
follow certain key processes. Each of the companies listed on Remote Scorecard are reviewed and
rated based on those processes.
Remote Work has come to mean Freedom and Flexibility. Trust, training and empathy are the magic words.
